Remote Displays are supplementary displays that are set up in various areas of the event to provide additional information to teams, volunteers and event attendees. At a minimum, events should have two Remote Displays to show Teamwork and Skills Rankings. Refer to the Venue Selection, Facility Planning & Field Layout article for more information.
Creating a New Remote Display
- Open the Competition Portal on the device that will be controlling the display. See Display Equipment for more information.
-
Select Remote Displays in the Dashboard or in the left-hand menu.
- Select the “+” icon to create a new Remote Display. Enter the following information:
- Select the Division
- Enter the Remote Display Name
- The name can be the location of the Remote Display or the type of display that will be shown.
- Select the Current Display Type
-
The Display Type can be changed throughout the event day. Select the type that corresponds to the information desired at that time.
-
-
Select the Show Display icon under Actions. This will open a new browser tab with the Remote Display shown.
-
It’s recommended to change the display settings to a full-screen mode. This is done differently depending on the browser type. For Chrome browsers, select the three-dot settings icon to expand the settings menu, then select the Full Screen icon in the Zoom settings.
Example of a Remote Display in Full Screen mode:
- Repeat this process for additional Remote Displays at the event.
- Troubleshooting tips:
If the display does not appear to be updating properly, try refreshing the browser.
To exit out of the full screen mode, hold down the ESC button for 3+ seconds.
Modifying a Remote Display
During the event, you may want to modify the Display Type settings on one or more Remote Displays at the event. This can be done from any device that is connected to the Competition Portal.
- Open the Competition Portal and select the Remote Displays menu from the Dashboard or from the left-hand menu.
-
The list of active Remote Displays will be listed. Select the drop-down menu under Current Display to modify the Remote Display type. All Remote Displays associated with that display name will change to the new display type.
Using the Same Remote Display in Multiple Areas
Multiple Remote Displays can show the same information and be controlled through one Remote Display configuration.
For example, an event may have a large Team Pit area and two or more Remote Displays are used to show the same information.
Create the first Remote Display on the first monitor.
On the additional monitors, open the Remote Displays menu and find the Remote Display in the list. Select the Show Display icon.
When the Current Display option is modified, that will change for all displays associated with the same Remote Display Name.
If the Remote Displays need to be controlled independently from each other, create separate Remote Displays.
